Operation Stand Walk Run is a nonprofit foundation founded by Dr. Onyike and his colleagues to provide orthopedic surgical care to restore mobility in numerous patients afflicted by various conditions. The foundation raises resources to train and equip surgeons, develop surgical facilities and provide charity care, including complex joint replacement surgeries in Nigeria.
Prior to OSWR being formally created, renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Aham Onyike has conducted surgical missions to various parts of Nigeria and Africa, providing free care for patients there. His work was initially done by taking multidisciplinary teams from the U.S. to various parts of Nigeria working in collaboration with various state governments and the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Health. Some of the states visited include Abia, Imo, Enugu, Cross River, Uyo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Adamawa, Ekiti, Kaduna, and Kano. Countries visited include Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Ghana, and South Africa. Dr. Onyike who performed the very first total hip replacement surgeries in Imo state at the Imo State University Teaching Hospital in Orlu. He was also the first to perform a total knee replacement surgery in Ekiti state.
To ensure sustainability and longitudinal continuity of care, OSWR has a foundational partnership with Center for Advanced Specialty Surgery. These specialty hospitals provide a comprehensive spectrum of orthopedic and other surgical services, including charity work. The team has provided surgical treatment to hundreds suffering from advanced and complex orthopedic injuries and conditions. Treatment has included joint replacements, sports and trauma medicine, deformity correction, and spine surgery. The team has provided standard of care surgical services to patients in Nigeria who previously would have had to travel outside the country.

Aham Onyike, MD
Board-Certified, Fellowship-Trained Orthopedic Surgeon
Dr. Aham Onyike specializes in joint replacement surgery of the hip and knee – and is widely known for his excellence as a “Patient’s Choice” physician in these areas. His other areas of expertise include general orthopedics, fracture care, work-related injuries, and sports medicine and athletic injuries. He subsequently obtained his medical degree at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark in 1999. He completed his residency at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C., where he was awarded the title of Resident of the Year in his final year. He completed his fellowship training in adult reconstruction at Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Onyike received his board certification in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He has been practicing in US for almost two decades.
