Watch this video about joint replacement surgery:

Most people who require a joint replacement don’t realize that’s what they need – until their chronic joint pain becomes debilitating or severely restricts their movement. Arthritis is the most common cause of the type of joint pain that can eventually require a joint replacement surgery.

Joint replacement surgery, also called arthroplasty, involves removing the damaged portion of a joint and replacing it with an artificial prosthesis that allows for pain-free movement.

We specializes in hip and knee replacements. Depending on the extent of your condition, there are a variety of approaches he can take to get you the best outcomes. Wherever possible, Dr. Onyike will recommend minimally invasive methods that can significantly reduce your post-op pain, scarring, and recovery time.

Dr. Onyike also performs revision surgery, which may be necessary for patients who have already undergone a joint replacement surgery. Over time, artificial joints can loosen or wear down, infection may develop in the joint, or bones around the joint may become weak and fracture. Revision surgery addresses such issues to restore mobility and eliminate chronic pain symptoms.

Your hips and knees are especially vulnerable to wear and tear injuries because these joints support much of your weight when you stand, walk, or run. Whether you suffer from arthritis, a bone fracture, or soft tissue problems, such as a knee ligament tear (ACL, PCL, MCL, and LCL), We can perform the orthopedic procedure necessary to relieve your hip or knee pain and help get you back to your everyday activities as soon as possible.

Bones are the hardest tissue in your body but can split or break under too much pressure or force. Patients with osteoporosis – a condition that causes bones to become weak and brittle over time – may also suffer fractures, even with minimal force, such as a sneeze. Broken bones require specialized orthopedic care in order to properly heal. Osteoporotic fractures in particular require skilled care to ensure the bones heal as best as possible. We can expertly treat many different types of fractures to ensure a quick recovery as well as the long-term restoration of range of motion and mobility.

Doctors and patients alike have been enthusiastic about the positive outcomes of regenerative medicine in treatment of orthopedic injuries and conditions. In some cases, regenerative orthopedics has been able to delay or even eliminate the need for surgery.

One of the most popular regenerative treatments is platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, which involves taking a sample of a patient’s blood, processing it to concentrate the platelets – which contain growth factors – and reinjecting the platelets to a site of injury. Doing so boosts healing and recovery using the body’s natural healing process.

In the world of orthopedics, regenerative medicine has been used for patients with soft tissue injuries, like ligament and muscle tears, as well as to speed up healing of broken bones or surgery-related trauma. We are happy to evaluate your condition or injury and determine if regenerative orthopedics might be right for you.

Sports injuries can occur no matter the level of your play: everyone from amateurs to professionals are at increased risk of orthopedic injury if they play sports. The good news is that most sports injuries can be treated effectively, with either nonsurgical or surgical care, and patients can return to a satisfying level of physical activity after they have healed.

We take the time to appropriately evaluate his patients. This is especially important for active or retired athletes who may be more susceptible to orthopedic injuries. Impairment evaluations can not only identify issues requiring treatment but also susceptible areas to keep an eye on. For active athletes who have suffered injuries, We focus on restoring as much functionality as possible in order to ensure athletic performance is not impacted.

Before arthroscopy existed, surgeons were required to make large incisions at the knee or hip to look inside the joint when performing surgery. This traditional, “open” surgery method carries a higher risk of infection, significant trauma to healthy tissue, requires a longer time for recovery, and often results in significant lifelong scars.

Arthroscopy allows surgery to be much less invasive and traumatic on the body. Only a small incision is required, because a flexible tube and miniature instruments (including video technology) can be used to access the surgery site. Therefore, there is no need for large incisions. Arthroscopy causes less post-op pain, inflammation, and scarring, and requires a shorter recovery period. It can be used to diagnose and simultaneously treat joint issues. It’s no wonder arthroscopic surgery is one of the most popular orthopedic procedures around.
